Trixie( Helen George) returned in The Call the Midwife Christmas Special

Violet hosts a Teddy Bears’ Picnic and is developing fund by maintaining a sweepstake on whether the Queen will have a boy or girl- of course we know she had a boy, Prince Edward!

The episode also encounters the midwives receiving brand-new midwifery containers but Sister Monica Joan is upset when she sees Fred igniting the old leather ones.

Talking about what fans can expect in the brand-new series, novelist and executive producer Heidi Thomas says: “1 964 was its first year that the Greater London Council came into being. We appreciate Violet in particular becoming more involved in neighbourhood politics, but Dr Turner and Shelagh likewise impound the opportunities that increased funding delivers their way.

“They have the ability to launch brand-new clinics and new initiatives, and become involved in testing the brand new measles vaccine.

“The increased workload at the surgery means they have to hire a new receptionist, the steely but sweet Miss Higgins. I named the character after the first teach I ever had, at my village school in Yorkshire.

” To my surprise, on the first day of filming Georgie Glen, who plays her, is out of Wardrobe dressed precisely like the real Miss Higgins, in a light-green tweed suit and little hotcake hat! It gave me goose bumps, it was so magical.”

Meanwhile, it’s been revealed that over eight million viewers watched the festive special of Call the Midwife on Christmas Day.

Call the Midwife is back on January 13 th.
