BMW’s B57 quad-turbo 3-liter gets 3rd place in South African’s 2018 Engines of the Year

In South Africa, BMW’s B5 7D30S0 quad-turbo 3 liter inline-six cylinder has got the third place on the rostrum. This locomotive is a wonder. Dislocating only 3.0 liters and sporting only six-cylinders, it manages to create 394 hp and 561 lb-ft of torque. Admittedly, it does mansion four-turbochargers to help get the job done but it’s still impressive. 561 lb-ft of torque from a six-cylinder engine, regardless of the turbocharger count, is impressive.

But what’s most impressive than its astonishing power is how smooth and usable it is. The B5 7 influences the BMW 750 d and allows the massive indulgence sedan to get from 0-60 mph in 4.5 seconds. That’s damn fast for a massive diesel-powered indulgence car.

This massively powerful BMW diesel engine will return fuel economy of 7.2 liter/ 100 km.

The engine is also presently used in the G3 0 M550d, G0 5 X5 M50d and the G0 7 X7 M50d.

Second place goes to Porsche’s 4-liter flat-six which is used in the 911 GT3 RS. It creates 520 hp( 383 kW) at 8,250 rpm while torque is measured at 470 Nm.

And the first place is not actually reserved for an locomotive, but rather for the entire Tesla powertrain and its Model 3. The range-topping Model 3 is powered by a 75 kWh power jam-pack providing 456 of crest ability, good enough for a 0-100km/ h occasion of 3.3 seconds and 500 km of combined driving range.
