Ryalex drew attention at Carlisle Racecourse on Monday for his eye-catching 24 -length victory in a 2 1/2 -mile point-to-point contest, and also because the 7-year-old has actually one ear. According to racingpost.com, the gelding usually races in a hood, but trainer Lucinda Russell removed the gear for this race. The resulting victory was Ryalex’s first in 11 starts under rules.
” We’re specially fond of him because he has only one ear ,” said Peter Scudamore, Russell’s partner.” He lost it in an incident in Ireland before we bought him .”
