Legendary comic creator Alan Moore<\/a> has long been vocal about his distaste for superhero movie modifications. Now, in a newly resurfaced 2017 interview<\/a> with Brazilian newspaper Folha de Sao Paulo( via BBC<\/a> ), we now know just how deep that loathing goes. Speaking candidly, the Watchmen<\/a> writer said,” I conceive the implications of superheroes on popular culture is both tremendously embarrassing and not a little worrying .” <\/p>\n

He went on to discuss how these characters are meant for a” twelve or thirteen year-old audience ,” and the strange turn things have taken with movies geared towards adult bunches.” The continuing popularity of these movies to me suggests some kind of deliberate, self-imposed state of emotional arrest ,” he elaborated,” combined with a numbing condition of culture stasis that can be witnessed in comics, movies, popular music genre and, indeed, right across the culture range .” <\/p>\n

Moore didn’t stop there. A newly published transcript of the full interview via the Alan Moore World<\/a> website disclosed he then was talking about the creators of these personas, people who” never stood up for their own rights against the companies that employ them .” Moore said they permit their superheroes” to be largely hired as cowardice compensators, perhaps a bit like the handgun on the nightstand .”( Editor’s Note: There’s a long history in the industry of inventors being unfairly offset or acknowledged for the characters they’ve created. He even touched on comics’ deficiency of diversity, something which is slowly changing with freeings like the recent female-led Capitan Marvel<\/a>, the Asian-led Shang-Chi film<\/a>, and the highly diverse The Eternals<\/a>.” I would also remark that save for a handful of non-white characters( and non-white creators) these books and these iconic personas are still very much white supremacist dreams of the lord race ,” Moore remarked.<\/p>\n
