Demi Lovato<\/a> has broken her silence for the first time following her overdose on July 24.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have always been transparent about my journey with addiction. What I\u2019ve learned is that this illness is not something that disappears or fades with time. It is something I must continue to overcome and have not done yet,\u201d she wrote<\/a> on Sunday in a message shared on her Instagram account.<\/p>\n

\u201cI want to thank God for keeping me alive and well,\u201d she added, before praising her fans for standing by her through this difficult time.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo my fans, I am forever grateful for all of your love and support throughout this past week and beyond. Your positive thoughts and prayers have helped me navigate through this difficult time,\u201d she remarked.<\/p>\n

Lovato, 25, went on to \u201cthank my family, my team, and the staff at Cedars-Sinai who have been by my side this entire time.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cWithout them I wouldn\u2019t be here writing this letter to all of you,\u201d she explained.<\/p>\n

\u201cI now need time to heal and focus on my sobriety and road to recovery. The love you have all shown me will never be forgotten and I look forward to the day where I can say I came out on the other side,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

\u201cI will keep fighting,\u201d she continued, adding a heart emoji.<\/p>\n

Lovato\u2019s heartfelt note came two days after\u00a0sources told PEOPLE that the \u201cSorry, Not Sorry\u201d singer has\u00a0agreed to enter a drug treatment center<\/a> following her release from Cedars-Sinai in L.A., where she has been hospitalized for the past 12 days.<\/p>\n

\u201cDemi is well enough to leave the hospital this weekend. She has agreed to rehab and will go straight to an in-patient facility,\u201d a source explained. \u201cShe wants to be sober. She wants to get help. She understands that it will take a lot of work and commitment to stay healthy, but this is what she wants.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lovato was rushed to the hospital on the morning of July 24 following the incident at her Hollywood Hills home. Her publicist\u00a0released a statement that evening<\/a> confirming Lovato \u201cis awake and with her family who want to express thanks to everyone for the love, prayers and support.\u201d<\/p>\n

A source previously told PEOPLE that Wilmer Valderrama<\/a>, who dated the singer for six years before their split in June 2016,\u00a0rushed to Lovato\u2019s side<\/a>\u00a0on July 25. He was also seen visiting Lovato again on July 26, when a photo of him at the hospital emerged.<\/p>\n

\u201cHer whole family and Wilmer are just there to support her through recovery,\u201d a source told PEOPLE last week, describing the singer\u2019s support system as she continued her recovery process<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cWilmer has spent hours at the hospital with Demi every day,\u201d a second source added. \u201cHe seems very concerned about her.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lovato has long battled addiction, mental illness and disordered eating<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Disney Channel alum entered treatment<\/a> in 2010, where she received professional assistance for bipolar disorder, bulimia, self-harm and addiction. Lovato relapsed after she left the treatment center, then entered a sober living facility<\/a> for a year.<\/p>\n

But even after treatment, insiders say she still struggled with her private pain. \u201cDemi was never really clean and sober from all of her demons,\u201d a Lovato source previously told PEOPLE. \u201cShe has been fighting depression and anxiety for quite some time \u2014 and is still in such a dark place. She was sober for a while, but not completely sober for six years.\u201d<\/p>\n

In March, Lovato revealed she celebrated six years of sobriety<\/a>, but three months later, in June, she released a new song, \u201cSober,\u201d in which she suggested that she had relapsed<\/a>.<\/p>\n
