Sadly, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SpeakerRyan?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Eauthor\">Matthew Lynley<\/a> was reading slam poetry to ambivalent cacti in the Sonora Desert and thus couldn&#8217;t join us. He&#8217;ll be back soon, we promise.<\/p>\n<p>But we had a good crew on deck and a grip of news to sift, so let&#8217;s get to what we got into.<\/p>\n<p>First up was the latest headlines in the on-demand transportation\u00a0sector. <a class=\"crunchbase-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.crunchbase.com\/organization\/lyft\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"organization\" data-entity=\"lyft\">Lyft <\/a> raised a <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2018\/06\/27\/lyft-15-billion-600-million-funding-round\/\">huge new pile of cash<\/a> at a <a href=\"https:\/\/news.crunchbase.com\/news\/lyft-raises-600-million-in-new-funding-at-a-15-1-billion-valuation\/\">staggering valuation<\/a>, Uber got the go-ahead\u00a0to <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2018\/06\/26\/uber-wins-appeal-and-gets-a-provisional-15-month-license-to-operate-in-london\/\">operate once more in the great city of London<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2018\/06\/28\/bird-has-officially-raised-a-whopping-300m-as-the-scooter-wars-heat-up\/\">Bird&#8217;s $300 million round<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/news.crunchbase.com\/news\/birds-new-300m-keeps-the-scooter-wars-burning\/\">officially closed<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>So that&#8217;s another $900 million for domestic transportation-sharing, at least, in a single week. Right.<\/p>\n<p>Next up <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2018\/06\/26\/confirmed-sequoia-has-already-secured-three-quarters-of-what-will-be-an-8-billion-global-fund\/\">Sequoia&#8217;s epic new $6 billion in fresh capital<\/a>. Recall the famous line about a million dollars not being cool, but a billion dollars being cool? Sadly a billion dollars isn&#8217;t cool, <a href=\"https:\/\/dealbook.nytimes.com\/2012\/01\/25\/marc-andreessen-seeks-1-5-billion-in-funding\/\">2012 Andreessen Horowitz<\/a>. But <a href=\"https:\/\/news.crunchbase.com\/news\/late-stage-drives-sequoia-capitals-growing-funds\/\">maybe $6 billion is cool<\/a>. At least 2018 Sequoia thinks so. (Good luck returning a multiple of that figure!)<\/p>\n<p>Speaking of a16z, that shop <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2018\/06\/25\/andreessen-horowitz-has-a-new-crypto-fund-and-its-first-female-general-partner-is-running-it-with-chris-dixon\/\">has a new vehicle in the market<\/a> focused on the crypto space. With $300 million ready to go and no 20 percent cap on crypto investments, a16z can now do what it wants inside of the surprisingly-still-nascent space.<\/p>\n<p>All that and we tried to squeeze <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2018\/06\/25\/att-appnexus\/\">AppNexus<\/a> into the show.
