Netflix is turning Dolly Parton’s songs into a TV series

Dolly Parton is partnering with Netflix for an anthology series.

Netflix is taking inspiration from Dolly Parton songs to create a new anthology TV series, Jezebel reported on Monday.

The streaming platform has partnered with the iconic country artist to turn eight of her songs into stand-alone narrative episodes, according to the New York Times. In addition to singer and songwriter credits, Parton will executive produce and act in some episodes of the series.

“As a songwriter, I have always enjoyed telling stories through my music,” Parton, 72, said in a press release. “I am thrilled to be bringing some of my favorite songs to life with Netflix.”

The “I Will Always Love You” singer is no stranger to writing music for movies, as she did with “9 to 5” and “Tennessee Homesick Blues.” Her songs have served as the foundation for projects including the 2015 film Dolly Parton’s Coat of Many Colors and 2008’s Jolene.

The Netflix anthology series is expected to premiere in 2019.
